Assessment Tests: What are they and how do they work?
What are Assessment Tests?
Assessment Tests are a series of questions and tasks designed to examine a prolancer’s knowledge and aptitude in a specific area. It is a complementary step designed to better help hirers examine a prolancer’s suitability for a project.
The types of questions and tasks that are used in Assessment Tests depend solely on the type of the project that a prolancer is seeking, as well as the skills and capabilities which are required for that specific project. The requirements of a project are set by a hirer, and a prolancer’s fitness for a project is assessed based on the final score they achieve in separate sections of the tests. A final score will be made available to hirers, following which they can review the scores and decide on the suitability of a candidate for a specific project.
The scores of a prolancer’s Assessment Tests will also be displayed on their User Profile, under the ‘Accomplishments and Tests’ section. Having assessment scores displayed publicly will help prolancers be noticed by potential hirers. However, prolancers may choose whether they do or do not want to display this information on their profiles.
Please note that, prolancers will only be required to take assessment tests once, for a specific project. If prolancers choose to apply for a similar position in the future, they will not be asked to repeat the assessment test.
How does Assessments work?
If an assessment test is required for specific a project that you have applied for, you will receive an email with a link to the test portal. We currently use HackerRank for all our assessment tests.
Once you click on the link, you will be redirected to Prolancer Assessments on the HackerRank portal. To take the test, you will be required to enter your email address. Please ensure that you use the exact same email address that you have previously used to create your Prolancer account – if you fail to provide the correct email address, your results will not be verified by Prolancer.com, and the hirer will not receive your test results.
Please ensure that you fully read and understand the test instructions prior to starting your test, as you can only make ONE attempts at completing your test.
Please ensure that you have a good internet connection and that you are using a working computer device to complete your test. Please note that, once you start the test, you cannot pause it!
Before to starting your test, you must consent that you will not copy your answers, including codes, from somewhere else or consult someone else to complete your test.
We advise that you take a sample test to become familiarised with the coding environment.

Can I take an assessment from my phone?
It depends on the type of test you are required to complete. Most of the assessment tests that involve coding require the use of a laptop or a desktop computer. If there is no coding involved, you may be able to use a mobile device to complete a test, if you have a working mobile device and a good connection to Wi-Fi.
Is completing an assessment test compulsory?
You are not required to complete assessment tests. However, keep in mind that some Hirers might only be willing to consider candidates that do complete these tests, as it allows them to better examine an applicant’s suitability for a project. Additionally, completing assessments helps showcase your skills to hirers and let them know that you are interested!
How long does completing an assessment take?
While the length of an assessment test varies, most test modules take an average of 60-90 minutes or less.
Does completing an assessment cost anything?
No! Prolancer Assessments is completely free.
How do I send my assessment results to a Hirer?
Hirers will automatically receive your results once you complete the assessment.
Can I retake an assessment?
No. We currently do not allow candidates to retake assessment tests.
How do I remove my assessment test scores from my Profile?
While you cannot remove assessments scores from your Profile, you can control whether or not the scores are visible to potential hirers. On your User Profile, scroll to the Accomplishments & Tests section and toggle off the visibility of your Assessment result. This makes your results private and hidden from potential hirers.
